Neymay penalty
Another miss; same type of approach as Zaza in the Euros, except this one was easily saved.

With penalties being missed, left, right and centre in the PL and the CL, what's gone wrong?

How would you take a penalty? If you had to coach your son, what would you advise him?

Re: Neymay penalty
Think we're lucky. We've had some pretty consistent penalty takers over the years, with different styles:

Stewart
Dicks
PDC
Noble

To name a few. I always liked PDC's style of dinking it straight down the middle, usually leaving the keeper on his arse. Van der sar at loftus rd springs to mind.

Re: Neymay penalty
Noble's penalties are a mystery to me, his success rate is right up there, but his execution always appear to be at that nice height for keepers.

I can only conclude that he is so boss-eyed the goalie can't possibly read where is going to stick it.

Re: Neymay penalty
When I played I was pitifully slow so penalties were the only way my season goals tally would look half decent for a striker~!! Think I only missed 3 out of a good 40 odd over the years and I just blasted it always low to the goalkeepers right, hopefully into the side netting. I despair at the players these days with all this side foot crap. Just blast it Dicksy or Ray Stewart style and as long as it's on target the keeper would have to make a good save to stop it.

How can someone use Noble's success at penalties as an opportunity to have a go at him?

Re: Neymay penalty
Think I read that aguero has taken 34 penalties for man city and has only scored 26 of them.

May have actually been worse than that.

Shows how good noble is at them, we're very lucky.

Also considering how long Sergio has been at the club and the fact toure and others have also taken pens, fuck me they are awarded a lot. Cheating cunt refs.

Re: Neymay penalty
Le Tissier did a masterclass on sky a few years back and it was so simple I don't know why every player doesn't do it.

He basically said he looks to sided foot it in to the keeper's left with pace every time. If the keeper doesn't move before he hits it they'd never get to it, it would be quick and accurate enough to go in. If the keeper moves before he hits it then he'd wrap his foot round it and stick it the other way.

Maybe noble has a similar technique.

Not having a pop geep, just an observation.

No agenda here.

Looks like he waits for the keeper to move and sticks it the other way. Great penalty taker.

He's only 22, little European experience, playing against, arguably the greatest attacking team ever assembled.

Re: Neymay penalty
I coach my lads to pick a corner then hit it firmly aiming for the stitching where the side netting meets the back of the net.
Gives them about a foot of space if they get it slightly wrong towards the post and still difficult for a keeper to get to it.
Always worked for me and I only missed when I tried something different.

Fair enough, monto.

I just get a bit pissed off with people doing down MN without good cause.

Pick a corner. Kick the ball hard toward that corner.

Re: Neymay penalty
stick a cone in either corner of the goal, get the kids to hit the cone consistently with a pass then build up the power/pace.
eventually put in a keeper and take away the cones.

but nothing can replicate the effect of stress/pressure on the taker. in that case you either have it or you dont. lots of practice can help but the rest is in the mind.

What are you talking about?

Was that meant for the John Stones thread?

Re: Neymay penalty
Our old football manager on Sunday's played at a decent semi pro level when he was younger.. reckoned he never missed a penalty in any form of football... even in pre season training we'd have a pen comp to finish off and he'd always win it... just side foot literally a few inches either side of both posts.. he could never understand how professional footballers could EVER miss a pen....

I only took 5 or 6 in Cup shoot outs after extra time.. never missed.. my technique?? Ray Stewart/Dicksy/Hursty... just run up and smash it as hard as I can... ave it

Re: Neymay penalty
I reckon playing at a decent semi pro level and slotting away against a semi average goalkeeper in front of 40 people might be slightly different to slamming one in against a professional goalkeeper when there's 40,000 fans screaming at you.

Just a hunch, like...

ED... Yeah you are right... poor lambs.... 40k screaming at you and their technique and bottle goes to pot... maybe they need to get out as Football is obviously not for them
